My partner and I visited this pub a few weekends ago, excited by the promise of a hearty roast dinner in a pub with new management.Unfortunately, our experience fell short of expectations. While the ambiance of the pub was pleasant and friendly, the roast dinner itself left much to be desired. Priced at £18, I expected a meal that would justify the cost, but sadly, it did not. This is coming from someone that's lived in London for the past few years and is used to paying this type of price. The vegetables served alongside the roast were really not great, both in appearance and taste. It seemed as though they had been microwaved with no seasoning and bland. The potatoes, while flavorful, were disappointingly dry and chewy, detracting from the overall enjoyment of the meal.I opted for the chicken, which thankfully was one of the better parts of the roast. It was cooked and seasoned well.In summary, the pub offers a cosy atmosphere, and we really enjoyed the range of board games, however the quality of the roast dinner did not meet our expectations. For the price charged, we definitely would have expected more.

Great "old world" pub, lovely well trained staff, it has recently changed hands and the new owners have brought the pub back to it's pre-covid glory. The beer and wine line-up has had a refresh to includes Harveys, Guiness and Beavertown Neck Oil on draught, there are also some great new world wines to choose from. Board games available in the snug area (to the left of the bar)!Kid-friendliness: Free board and dice/tile games to play and a lovely part-covered garden to play in.

In the gentle embrace of new stewardship, I believe it's time for Google to turn a fresh page and renew the statistics. It's unfathomable to imagine a world where this establishment garners anything less than a celestial five-star acclaim. The new guardians of this tavern have woven a tapestry of warmth and jubilation, enveloping the space in a cocoon of conviviality. The staff, like stars in a night sky, shine with attentiveness and amiability. They are as constant as the North Star, adhering unwaveringly to their opening hours. The ale flows like a well-tended stream, its quality unimpeachable, and the fare offered is a delightful symphony of taste, echoing the essence of a quintessential country pub. What more could one seek in this haven of rustic charm and heartfelt hospitality?

We booked a meal for eight people plus two dogs, only upon arrival the kitchen was closed! We had to wait half an hour for it to open. Although the pub / restaurant is supposedly dog-friendly, we were told for future reference that customers with dogs aren?t allowed to make bookings and must take their chances as walk-in customers only. The whole place was really dirty and smelly, the smell was so bad it ruined the dining experience. The landlady was very dismissive to the point of rude and told us that the pub is so busy that returning customers are not a requirement! No problem as I won?t be returning.

We went as a family group of 6 for a Christmas roast. The atmosphere was pleasant and the service very good and welcoming. Our meals were very good, both the beef and turkey. We never felt rushed and had plenty of time for our conversations, with the staff every now and checking on our needs.

Not normally one to leave a review but I feel Simon, Josie and their fantastic team all deserve a big thank you. A friend and I went for a meal last night and from the moment we walked in the atmosphere was great, the team were so friendly and attentive, the food was great and the portions a lovely size. Well done to you all. Keep up the great work and see you again.

Fabulous time in this country pub with new management. After some time of not visiting because of poor food and less-than friendly atmosphere, we decided to book for a Sunday lunch. Great atmosphere with lots of guests and a friendly welcome. The food was well prepared and extremely good and reasonably priced. Other guests near our table were more than prepared to chat - a great change from our last visit! Well done to the new management. May you serve your guests well in the times to come. Fantastic to see this pub filled to capacity. We shall be back, very soon we hope. We have recommended it to friends and neighbours and hope that these folk will feel confident to take our word for a visit. No complaints, it's a typical country pub and retains that specific characteristic with, now, the benefit of a truly cordial welcome and an excellent kitchen.

My brother and I happened to walk into this pub after a hike on the Downs. We had been rejected by pubs in Ditchling, so thought we would take our chances here. We had to wait 1.5 hours to see if they would have availability, but they accommodated us, all the bar staff were super nice and friendly. The food was good also!Vegetarian options: Nice nut roast!
