We decided last minute to call into the Royal Oak after a hard day at work/school. Was a relaxing, warm and welcoming atmosphere that eased everyone from the start. We opted for the starter and main which were all very good quality and as you can see on the photos big portions. We ended up with takeaway boxes that would feed us for another meal! All in all, nothing was a problem for the staff and safe to say we will be calling back again! ?Kid-friendliness: Our two kids were happily entertained by the staff who were more than happy to interact with them. Kids have called it the best restaurant.

Recently revisited The Oak after it's latest takeover. The food is a huge improvement over what used to be served. Brilliant Sunday lunch (cost around £13 per person). Atmosphere was calm and settled, no drunks clashing around, although it was only half full when we went so a little too quiet. Staff were lovely and helpful. Will go back.

Last night we went in for a meal and my mam ordered the hunters chicken. While mine and my dads meals had arrived at the table the lady serving us said ?your hunters chicken won?t be long it wasn?t fully cooked when they took it out so they?re heating it back up?. We have come home and then during the night my mam starts with sickness. New Year?s Day and she?s never been out of bed. Honestly do not recommend having any form of chicken from here as they will re heat it again and again until they think it?s cooked. Surely a chef should know when a piece of chicken is cooked!

Christmas day, arrived at 12 for first sitting, starter came within half hour, then waited for main course until 2.20 pm, half of the pub was in the same situation, the next sitting of people started arriving at 2.15,for their sitting to start at 2.30 with nowhere to sit, so trying to eat main meal with hoards of people knocking the chairs, we asked at 2.45 for our sweets to be put in takeaway boxes as it was impossible to sit and eat them in such a packed pub. It was absolute chaos, no explanation or apology. As a regular for over 18 months it was a massive disappointment for our family Christmas meal, and it was a shame we didn't get the chance to eat our meal, there was very few staff front of house, not even possible to speak to a member of staff on the day, so disappointed

Christmas day, arrived at 12 for first sitting, starter came within half hour, then waited for main course until 2.20 pm. No staff milling around or to ask for anything. Stood at the bar waiting for a drink for 15 mins. The next sitting of people started arriving at 2.15,for their sitting to start at 2.30 and with all the people still waiting or eating meals they had nowhere to sit, so we were trying to eat main meal with hoards of people knocking the chairs. We then asked at 2.45 for our deserts to be put in takeaway boxes and when we got home and saw the size of them it certainly was not worth the money. There was no explanation or apology. We are regulars but this was a big disappointment for our family Christmas meal, for 75 quid it was not worth 25 quid we were so disappointed. Some people got money back I think we should have asked for our back.

Booked for Christmas lunch on Christmas day for second sitting at 2.30 pm. When we arrived meals were still being served for first sitting and the bar was heaving. There was nowhere to wait and despite asking more than one person no-one could tell us how long we would have to wait. Tables were not being cleared and there seemed to be very few staff around. It was so chaotic and uncomfortable that we got a refund and left. Our Christmas lunch was a tin of soup. Never again.

Christmas dinner ruined! 2.5 hours after arriving and only given starters, guessing the turkey would have been well dried by then if it had arrived after all! They did give us a refund but to then try and find somewhere else to eat or even get food from on Christmas Day nigh on impossible. Fortunately we had a pizza in the fridge.

I was working in the area so called for tea. Chose a curry from the specials board and loved it. Well done chef. Nice beer too. ?????
