Came in to look for some dice and the man who was working on the tills helped us find them quickly. I forgot my loyalty card and he told me how to claim my points still. He also directed me, my aunt and my brother to Edinburgh castle. He was very friendly, happy and just a pleasure to be around. This was around 11am. Thank you so much!

We stayed here for 2 nights. The hotel is in a fantastic location. Our room was very small but clean. I thought the bathroom was dangerous. It was dangerous getting in and out of the shower. A strange noise came from the toilet every time it was flushed. Having said this I understand the hotel is undergoing a refurbishment and this can?t happen soon enough. The staff were fantastic and they were so helpful. The breakfast was amazing as was dinner at night. Overall our stay was pleasant but we won?t return until after the renovation is done.

The poor little Mercure?it has been so neglected. A feeble grasp on WiFi. Evening room service that never comes. Yet there is still something about it that recalls it?s former charm. I hope that they do a good job on the renovations. Having said that, you don?t go here for the rooms, at least not until the renovation. You go for the location. Right on Princes Street with incredible views of Edinburgh Castle and the Scott Monument. Airport tram stop literally across from the hotel. Easy walk to Royal Mile and St Andrews Square. A fabulous restaurant. Very nice staff. Having read reviews on this sight before my stay I was prepared for the room to be outdated and some things not working but was not prepared for the breathtaking view of Edinburgh Castle at night from my window! I?m wishing the best for the renovation to bring this lady back to shape.

We booked a ?Privilege Room? with Castle views and balcony, from 1st Sep, for two nights B&B, the cost was £558. Hotel is in a perfect location, on Prince?s Street, opposite the Scott monument. The reception is on the first floor, along with the very nice breakfast area, and bar / lounge. The bar / lounge and breakfast room are stylish and modern, with fantastic views of Edinburgh Castle, The Scott Monument and Prince?s Street. Absolutely no complaints at all. We took the lift to the 6th floor, and entered our ?Privilege room? The room was a decent size, with a huge bed (very comfortable it was too), two chairs, and large windows, and door onto the shared balcony (by shared, I mean we could walk right along it to look into other guest?s windows. There was no barrier to prevent this.). Other guests had left some rubbish bags strewn along the balcony. The views from the balcony were AMAZING! (castle, Scott Monument and Prince?s Street etc.) There was no temperature control in the room. The weather was lovely and warm, which made the room very warm at night. All I could do was to open the top window to try and keep the room at a cool temperature. But the room looked tired, and grubby Old dark wood furnishings, marks on the walls, carpet, and paintwork. I have to say, that the bathroom, for the price we paid, was AWFUL. It was very small, with a dated bath tub, and a flimsy shower curtain! Getting in and out the bath was a challenge, as there was nothing to hold onto. The mirror had the silver backing missing in places, and the grouting around the toilet base was stained yellow, with (I assume) urine. The room and bathroom looked NOTHING AT ALL like the pictures of the Privilege rooms on the website. It looked tired, dated and grubby! On the Saturday morning, there was no hot water, so we had to have a cold shower. Completely unacceptable these days. I complained to the maintenance man who was working on our floor. He knocked on the door about 10 minutes later to apologise. He told us that there?d been a power during the night, hence our lack of hot water. Breakfast was very nice, with a good selection to choose from (and those great views) To summarise: Hotel is in a great location, with lovely views from some of the rooms. The bar and dining area are very nice and modern, and it serves a good breakfast. But the hotel lets itself down BADLY, with the tired, dated and grubby rooms and bathrooms. And with the Privilege room, at over £250 per night, I expected MUCH better than that tiny bathroom, with its flimsy shower curtain over an old bath.

I should perhaps mention upfront that we were in one of the unrenovated rooms - I understand that the hotel is currently undergoing a multi-million pound refurb. But man, the room we were in was grim. The tired bed was stuffed into a corner under a stained and flaking artex ceiling, complemented by threadbare carpets, flaking paint, bubbling & curling-up lino on the bathroom floor, stains left, right & centre, harsh strip lighting, and a shower that was so feeble it was laughable - the trickle simply ran down the hose rendering cleaning oneself an impossibility. All this joy for.....wait for it.....well over £300 quid per night! I kid you not. Edinburgh Fringe premium accepted, but still.... The view, however, was utterly magical, taking in every sight beautiful Edinburgh has to offer. In fact, I doubt there's a better view from any hotel room in the city. We were on the 7th (top) floor. There was even an outside space, although for now it's a corridor rather a balcony, so if you venture outside you're eyeballing your neighbours. The greatest redeeming feature of the room was the floor to ceiling window, so the stunning view - including the fireworks as we were there during the fringe - could be enjoyed from the bed. Enough to merit a 2 star review despite the genuinely horrible room. But this would doubtless be a 4 or even 5 starrer post refurb. For now, however, best avoided.

Expensive for a run down room, excessive noise from bathroom plumbing, and a view of service facilities. Buffet breakfast was good and dining staff friendly but the cleaning of rooms was poor. There was also considerable mould in the bathroom and the sink was cracked. The worst part for us though was the non existent wifi and signal black spots so you couldn?t even use your own data. I had to leave the hotel to do anything requiring the internet. We raised this with staff who gave us a different log in to use the conference wifi, but that was only available in the reception area or dining room, it did not work in the suite. The pillows were also lumpy and uncomfortable. Do not recommend this hotel. Not value for money. The only plus side is the location and I think that?s what the price reflects.

So average for so much money. Very tired and abit grubby. Hot water in the shower not hot. Old bathroom. So underwhelming for £300 a night, no matter what time of year. Key repeatedly didn?t work.

I really couldn?t decide at first how to rate my experience at this hotel but have decided to go in the middle. There were definitely highs to the experience. All staff were courteous and friendly so I would give them 5/5. The breakfast was a typical buffet breakfast but everything was replenished very quickly and some things could be ordered separately eg scrambled eggs, vegan sausages. This was included in the price of the room so I cannot comment on the value but I would give it a 5/5. However, we then get down to the room itself and this is what let the hotel down. You pay extra for a view, which we did, and what a view it was looking over the gardens and a side view of the castle. However, the condition of the room was poor saying it cost over £400 for the night. Brown stains on the ceiling, paint peeling, a very worn chair and the table surfaces were the same. There was a kettle to make tea and coffee but no biscuits. The bathroom had not been updated for a while - the chrome was certainly going on the taps. There are notices that the hotel is being refurbished and should be finished by the end of 2023. I would return for the view but not until the rooms have been updated.

Stayed here for one night during the middle of the festival. It is what it is: a function hotel in the middle of a big city. The location is great. Bed was comfortable enough. My friend who I was staying with complained that there was no air-conditioning.

We went for the superior room with balcony and castle view on the 7th floor. Did we pay over the odds for it? Probably, but then I don?t think one person who was in Edinburgh at the same time could say they didn?t as the tattoo and the fringe was on. Would I pick the same room and pay the same price again? Yes, in a heartbeat! The room had definitely seen better days, but we understand that there is a refurbishment programme ongoing (no noise on the weekend). So this will be addressed. But it was spotlessly clean, the linens crisp and towels fluffy. The bed was so comfortable. Only one niggle was the large gap under the door that let a stream of light through at night from corridor that was easily remedied with a few strategically placed pillows! What we were paying for here was the location and the amazing views! I would challenge anyone who said they had a better view of the city. The balcony was fabulous and whenever we did return to the room we were happy to listen to the sounds down on the street?.we had a fabulous seat for a gospel choir singing by the portrait gallery! I would probably suggest that this is not the room for you if you have to have total peace and quiet as the trains do, appear to, run all night. But not a problem for us. We had two of the best nights sleep ever in this hotel, amazing! We had breakfast included in our rate and this has to be one of the best breakfast services we have experienced in a very long time. Everything was perfectly cooked and was HOT?no mean feat for a buffet! Clean, tidy, professional team buzz around the restaurant making sure everyone is ok. And the squeeze your own orange juice was fabulous! Where this hotel excels is the team. Everyone we came into contact with were amazing, friendly, professional and went out of their way to be helpful at what was a hugely busy time. So thank you to everyone who made our stay in Edinburgh perfect.

I stayed at the Mercure Edinburgh on June 9th with a friend for leisure and I was blown away by the stay! To the confirmation of my reservation to the contact I had with the reception manager Esti Losada was incredible. I also thank Gabriela and Karolina at the reception, they were wonderful since my checked-in and in the restaurant, my friend and I were treated very well by André. I look forward to returning to Scotland and staying at this wonderful hotel. In my point of view a good service can be contagious and give travelers good memories, and I have countless. Many thanks to all of the team and see you soon.

This is not the kind of hotel where you can drive up and unload your luggage onto a cart. They have no luggage carts, and no porters, and no place to park while you unload. Behind the building there's a little one-way street (Rose Street) where you can unload, but it's not their property and we were asked to move along. This is important to know because the parking is at a garage a half-mile away. And it was raining. Next time we're in Edinburgh I'll research the parking situation better, and not assume that when a hotel says that they have parking, it's actually good parking. The front desk people were nice, the room was ok but noisy from the street.
