Have purchased several items online from OOU over the years and always been happy with the quality. Recently purchased two (expensive) umbrellas, one of which bent out of shape almost on first use. Clearly not fit for purpose.Contacted customer services and after my chasing had one reply asking to send photo?s which I have done. Several emails and two weeks since initial contact and no further response. Poor customer service.

Very solid quality items from ethically made places and people around the world. Sold for high but somewhat fake prices in general, with some good quality local items, such as the cast iron tools. Very well laid out and friendly staff, something that fits perfectly into Oxford.

Really like this place. It stocks an eclectic mix of everything you never knew you needed.

All the cool stuff from Japan, Germany, Scandinavia, and E Europe. Mainly hardware and stationery/writing equipment, but also an Aladdin's cave of anything else that catches their eye I guess, like Japanese fishermen wellies with the separated big toe! Or Kaweco brass pens, or Papier d'Armenie incense which is just my favourite ever fragrance at the moment. You both need and will want pretty much everything in store ?

Objects of Use is not only a modern store, home to a unique selection of everyday household tools conscientiously sourced from around the globe. It is also a gift shop with an original range of products - from children's toys and office supplies, through soaps and shampoos made from environmentally friendly materials, to crockery, garden tools or canoe. Kaizen lovers will especially enjoy the goods from Japan. In my personal opinion, Objects of Use is the best gift shop in Oxford, where you can find a gift for any person, regardless of their age, gender or interests.

High quality, unique items, with excellent presentation. Located next to The Covered Market, near the Radcliffe Camera. Nice garden tools in the back room also.

Objects of NO use. I bought a Reindeer hide a few years ago which I have never used. It is still in the bag because it sheds hair even when there is a slight draught. The amount of hair that comes out is completely unacceptable. When I bought it there was no disclaimer on the website listing like there is now. I had an email conversation with Objects of Use at the time of purchase but they didn?t care less that I had been sold an item that I couldn?t actually use or display and was frankly shocked at their appalling customer service.

Place full of wonderful artisan items for kitchen, bathrooms, garden or otherwise; an excellent place to get a gift for someone that has a little extra character than something off the high street. Worth the money and time to peruse!

Wonderful shop full of serious and playful stuff. Friendly staff and reasonably priced. Loved it.

Objects of Use is an absolute gem of a small shop. Its concept is executed with complete skill, resulting in every stocked Object, large or small, being delightfully consistent in its ability to stand the test of time and provide pleasing utility. Having now moved away from Oxford, I'm grateful that the website is almost as enjoyable to browse as the shop itself. The care with which mail order packages are assembled gives one a further taste (or reminder) of the in-store experience. Long may the shop stand on Market Street and provide its perfectly curated selection of Useful Objects!

well presented shop but with a daft owner that doesn?t understand how customer service works. the shop does not have baskets or bags to put the items you want to purchase. they expect you to go up and tell them about every small little thing you want OR juggle them in your arms OR go up to the counter and interrupt the clerk and customer transaction happening so you can shove your items down on an already crowded counterall I can say is that as a repeat customer, being told I had never been seen in the shop seemed a bit odd to me to be honest. Well I do not plan on returning again as there are other small businesses I would rather support mainly ones that actually sell local goods, NOT imports!

I?ve always loved the shop in Oxford and the uniqueness of the items. However, I had a disappointing online experience: I ordered an oxhorn letter opener as a gift, which was reasonably priced, but unfortunately the item itself was not a very high quality. It felt light and plasticky, especially compared to another oxhorn letter opener I already own and oxhorn teaspoons. The real disappointment was with the customer service. A somewhat passive aggressive lady called to tell me that I was wrong about the quality, and that it was due to it being a smaller item, even after I told her about the comparisons. She mentioned that the letter openers vary in quality though, but when I asked her to send a replacement of a higher quality, she said they were too low on stock. Her final blow was that return postage would have to be paid by me as I simply didn?t like the item and it wasn?t their fault that the quality wasn?t as advertised. I do consider quality rather than taste to be different measures, so will unfortunately have to burden the cost. This has left a sour taste in my mouth and so I advise not using their online shop unless you are 100% sure of the item, though I still may visit in store.
