This place is so unique and fun! We had a standard double room which was plenty spacious, comfortable and the facilities were faultless. We had a drink in the bar which again, no problems at all! We didn't have any food so can't comment on that.I would recommend this hotel just for the experience, the conversion from prison to hotel was really well done!Location wise, you couldn't be more central, it's a fantastic location.

Stayed here for Valentines Day/Night and what a treat it was!!!! Although the hotel is based in the centre of Oxford, it's really easy to get to.When you arrive and have your car parked for you, you know you're in for a good stay. The hotel staff were beyond professional, polite and helpful. The 2 floor suite was STUNNIIIIIIIIING.Room service in the evening arrived on time and the food was hot.The breakfast in the morning was to die for!!!!Everything from start to finish was absolute perfection!!!!! ??

What a fantastic experience, spending the night in one of the old cells (3 cells concerted to 1 room), the grounds the hotel stand on also has a fascinating history which you can explore by finding the many silver plaques located around the area. The staff were extremely helpful and always ready to answer any questions, or to point you in the right direction. The club cell room we stayed in was clean, comfortable and quirky, and the branding in the rooms was superb, from carpets to cushions. Just what you would want from a stay at malmaison Oxford prison!

Excellent location with a touch of history in the heart of Oxford.

My wife and I were excited to be staying at Malmaison in Oxford. We booked a 1 night stay in March 2024 and friends had also booked to stay. We arrived early and were told the room was ready and we could check in straight away, great start. Our room number was 130 on floor 5. We had a quick look around our prison cell rooms and the rest of the hotel and then went out to explore Oxford, before coming back to shower before our evening out. This is when we started noticing how many defects our room had.The bathroom was in need of maintenance and nothing worked well. The flush on the (chipped and repaired with silicone) toilet was faulty so you had to hold the buttons to get enough water to flush. The shower knobs were stiff so you had to force them to move. The shower head was covered in limescale and top covered in dust. The shower screen trim was hanging off so water leaked out. The sink was chipped, very cracked and scratched. The tap wobbled (needed tightening) and the plug wouldn?t lift so had to lift it with your finger nails to let the water drain. Then there were stains on the walls and black mould on the ceiling. In the bedroom above the window we noticed more black mould and how dirty the glass on the windows were (more black mould). I actually wrote the word DIRT with my finger on one of the small squares of glass. There were 2 large metal covers on the ceiling covering the air flow system, these were thick with dust. The furniture all needed a sand and repaint as it was chipped and scuffed. In the wardrobe the there was a shelf with a big square hole which was very unusual. There are no plug sockets next to the bed on either side, there are 2 USB sockets but all our chargers use USB C so we couldn?t plug anything in at the bedside. The things we liked about the hotel, in our room we enjoyed the lovely coffee/tea, comfortable bed and pillows and the dressing gowns. The public areas of the hotel are lovely including the bar. The staff were all very friendly. At check out we were asked if everything was ok with our stay to which we told them about the mould and broken fittings and said if we were staying another night we would?ve asked to move rooms. We were given a business card with the email address for the reception manager and told to contact her regarding our problems. It would be more proactive for the manager to talk to us straight away or to contact us, surely that would be better customer service. We paid £335.00 for 1 night in a prison cell room (room only, no breakfast) for what we thought would be a luxury night away but left feeling very disappointed & underwhelmed.

Very nice hotel in an old prison. For people who like the unusual. The breakfast is very good and the service is excellent.

This is a 4 star hotel, with 10 star staff! They were very proactive heroes (they did my check-in in 2 minutes and took my luggage to my room because I was in a hurry for dinner). Also the reception staff was very generous (they decorated my colleague's room with our birthday stuff!). We had a great start to our trip thanks to the kindness and attention of your staff! Thank you!

My wife and i was disappointed that we coudnt give 5 stars after a highly anticipated visit. The following is in the context of paying £300 for a night's stay therefore the expectation bar being set High. The venue is stunning and the room (an old cell) was clean and nicely presented. The room was cold at first but started warming up late evening, but never reached a comfortable temperature given time of year. The water passing through the heating pipework, once it was on, could be heard in the room at night. A valve was not connected to the radiator in our room and we was awoken in the middle of the night to what sounded like those in the room above us trying to get their heating to work, with the sound passing through the pipes. We could also hear their footsteps and movement in their room. Being awoken during the night from the sound of other guests is not something we expected and something we've never experienced elsewhere despite staying in many "budget" hotels before. There was a water damaged mirror and some minor staining/discoloration on the walls in the bathroom. Dead flies were in abundance above the lighting/heating radiant panels too.The service at breakfast was below our expectations and rounded off our already below par experience. It was busy and this was evident however it felt there was an appropriate number of staff on. We waited c. 20 mins for someone to take our order and was then subsequently asked twice whether we had placed our order, prompting thoughts the waitress who took our order had forgotten not least given we had to ask twice for tea at our table. The buffet selection was limited. The breakfast was OK however, had we not have had it included in our booking then our assessment was £25 per person was not reflective of the experience received.Unlikely to be in a rush to stay at another Malmaison.Rooms: Nice size. Great experience staying in what was a prison cell(s)Walkability: Very good location within Oxford Centre. Next door to shopping centre.

Enjoyed Malmaison in Oxford! We stayed for a night just before Christmas and had a suite (I forget the name of it) which was well presented and included a separate room with a large sofa, a huge TV (one of two in the suite), nice lighting and it was just generally cozy. In the bathroom there was a giant bath which is always nice to see and use!The hotel looks amazing, there's a really nice reception area with gentle lighting and comfortable seating, perfect in the freezing weather (as it was). It looked great with the Christmas trees too!One downside; our room was in a tiny group of three doors - ours, another suite opposite and then a "staff only" door in between. In the morning there was a fair amount of noise from the staff room - I imagine cleaners going in and out of their supply room - door slamming regularly and so on. Quite annoying - maybe they expected the suites to be vacant. Also, they were a bit low on tea bags in the room but a quick ring to reception sorted that without a problem. We would happily stay again, not least because of the great location. Tip: there are so many great cafés around Oxford, you don't necessarily need to limit yourself to breakfast in the hotel - we didn't!
