Really appreciated the integrity of this Jewellers. I brought in an antique pocket watch with what I incorrectly thought was a mechanism issue, and was told that the cost of the repair probably wasn't worth doing compared to the actual value of the watch (a similar number of £). It would have been very easy to just quote me that amount, do the job and take the money rather than recommending I didn't use the service - so I'm extremely grateful for the honesty. Five stars for that.

Went in to John Gowling yesterday with several pieces of very special, damaged jewellery. One was fixed free on the spot, another fixed within a couple of hours. Left two pieces with them. The welcome and service was exceptional. A lost art in so many shops. Thank you to the team. Looking forward to getting the other pieces back and wearing them again. Yvonne

This is a great Jewellers in the covered market , they really could not have been more helpful with a missing stone on my ring, taking care with the colour etc, I can highly recommend this wonderful independent Oxford business !

I went in with an inquiry about fixing a chain necklace. I found the service rude. It was not welcoming and the words and tone used were not hospitable. I said I had a gold chain and he corrected me that it was only silver with gold plating. All my conversation was met with impoliteness. He said the links were too small to fix and given it?s not gold it would just melt under a soldering iron. I asked if he could suggest somewhere to take it to, to which he replied, ?take it back?. It was clear he just wanted me out of his shop. The necklace is by Missoma and not cheap, though it?s clear he regarded it as that.In response to the shops response:I wished to be treated and spoken to in the manner you just have. You clearly can when you?re defending yourself in public. Given your reviews state that you also fix jewellry I chose to come into your independent shop as it?s local to me. My suggestion is that you treat every customer and their query with kind regard at all times. Also, if they have a complaint, you reply with a genuine apology and look to mend the situation and improve rather than blaming them for the problem they have with the service.

Took my late father's watch in as unreliable, they kindly looked it over, checked battery ok, improved what they could, for no charge and said come back if its not better. Much appreciated. Grateful for skilled trusted staff on site.
