It has been a complicated process and I was nervous about opening up a bank account as a foreign national, but Chris B was incredibly helpful and patient in assisting me with setting everything up! Amazing banking policies here compared to the U.S., no fixed overdraft fees (just interest if unpaid at end of the month) and a 4% interest on savings account. Thanks Chris!

2.8 is harsh. I found this branch to be forthright, helpful and expedient. Two visits in the last week were so, and very helpful for my needs.

I went on a Wed and had to open a bank account urgently due to pending payments. Angelica at HSBC was really kind to take me as an additional customer. (Receptionist told me they usually stop from new customers from 3pm). Angelica took me in at 3:30pm. She was super nice and informative and took the extra time to let me know all kinds of security, online banking, credit cards, savings accounts, interest rates, and helped me set up mobile banking. I must say I am quite impressed by Angelica's service. If I remember correctly, she said she works on Wed and Sat.That being said, I do see why most comments here give the bank such a low rating. The closing hour is 4:30pm but they stop taking new customers at 3pm (Why?). The receptions are standing all day with no seats available, which is probably why most comments here say that the bank is unfriendly - quite understandable if you have to stand all day (also limited seating available for customers). The head office should invest more on giving its own employees and customers seating and lights. I would've give this branch a 1/5 if it were not for Angelica's professionalism and warm welcome, she is an angel and 5/5 stars.

This is the only HSBC branch left in Oxford and what is meant to be their flagship city centre branch, yet there is no counter service available on a Saturday.

I want to give special thanks to Gemma for helping me with my HSBC app because I couldn?t see my credit cart transactions for nearly 2 years and with endless phone calls and no joy to resolve the issue finally this week after visiting your branch and with help from Gemma raising the issue with IT department I could see the transactions on my banking app.ThanksGemma N Lam

I had an account with them until 2013, when I lived in Oxford. I closed the account in 2014, got a letter to that effect, and received no statements, communication, debit cards or anything from them until 2022, when out of the blue, they sent me a threatening letter, to my address in the US, claiming my account is in overdraft. They also started bombarding me with messages on my US line from 2 am to 6 am my time, threatening and harassing and asking I wire them money. When I called to inquire, I was on hold for 3 hours on Skype, to get an agent in the Philippines who likewise couldn't tell me who is using a defunct account in my name, what the charges are. It's financial fraud and harassment. In fact, it's financial abuse. I receive no statements from them, no record of any activity since 2014, have no active debit or credit cards, no way to access a long dead account and am asked to wire money to this agency. And I'm harassed constantly from them. It's gotten to the point I will be changing my US number and reporting them for financial fraud.

If anyone is an avid fan of long delays, confused staff and ill-content customers this is your bank. Went in to show ID, came out hours older, and in possession of the type of lament that only those I shared my disappointing experience with in the waiting room can know.If you have to bank here, bring a pillow, heck, take an air bed, kick back, at least it?s heated.
