“The metal planet ringI wanted to design a unique silver signet ring to mark a significant age reached and remind me to treat every one of my years thereafter as a gift. To reflect my penchant for modernist design, I provided a short brief for a ring to appear “laser cut from a metal planet sometime in the future”. It should also display the minimalist and brutalist design of my company emblem on its top surface.Eddie absorbed the brief quickly and provided a number of possible directions in 3D printed design, while guiding me gently towards a brave concept he felt confident would deliver the brief best. I’m glad he pushed me beyond my comfort zone. The result would be breathtakingly immaculate – platinum and white gold embedded in a fluid geometric silver structure.Eddie’s focus and care in creating what I can only describe as a masterpiece was mesmerising. We communicated regularly through video, exchanging ideas. It fast became clear that nothing short of perfection would satisfy him, no matter how challenging the work became. Through that flow between us, Eddie was able to shape what is now the most precious item in my world.I have come to understand that Eddie is a genius, the type who has little idea that he is a genius. His talent is so sublime that I cannot wait to work with him again on a second piece. Thank you Eddie. The experience of working with you has been extremely special.
