Friendly staff, delicious food. Nice atmosphere and good location. Hot shot parmo was excellent, worth the above average cost. The menu is small but we'll definitely be back to try more options and to give the Sunday lunch a go.

Just been for Sunday Lunch and couldn?t be more disappointed. I?ve been coming here since I was a young child and that?s the worst it?s been. The starter was supposed to be a salad with no salad in sight. I was given a starter knife to cut beef and had to ask for a proper knife. My partner was not impressed with his dry chicken breast. No stuffing with the Sunday lunches. We were only asked if we wanted a drink once and it?s also quite patronising asking if you want the red or orange coloured drink ? the toilets were soaking with toilet water so I?ve come out covered in toilet water. We left feeling not full at all after a starter and main and we definitely were not staying for dessert.

Based on a quick visit for drinks, the staff were welcoming and friendly with a prompt service. A little quiet but can imagine great atmosphere would be had.

Sunday lunch for 10..no bread rolls no bread and butter....soup and prawn cocktails served with dry melba toast no glazed parsnips no glazed carrots no stuffing...we did eventually get some almost raw stuffing... no cauliflower cheese..no chicken...the beef we requested without gravy came with gravy and was unfortunately the last of any meat....so one of the party had no sunday lunch at all....not that they were missing much....this member of the party got steak and chips some time after the rest of us finished eating what we did get....the man who was in charge told us it was all complementary....then it seemed he didn't have the authority to say that and it wasn't....not sure if they offer apple sauce with the pork or horseradish with the beef...would be a good idea... most places do...a portion of pigs in blankets seemed to be one and a half..very bizarre that ....the fire needs some attention.....its a health hazzard ...as we were covered in ash ...and at one time coughing and choking with the amount of smoke coming into the room...not good when two of the party have respiratory problems. .we didn't bother with dessert and decided that enough was enough....all in all a memorable 70th birthday lunch.....am extremely disappointed...and as my lungs feel on fire suspect it will be several weeks before i am fit enough to go anywhere for lunch

Poor service and poor food tonight. Never been before and won?t be going back for a while. The staff seemed nice people and I?m sure they are. Felt like they have their hands tied by the employer. Poor quality ingredients, poor standards in kitchen. Fryers clearly not cleaned properly for a while and poor quality food served. I don?t usually complain or leave a bad review. I just don?t go back. On this occasion I complained, won?t go back in a hurry and unfortunately feel strong enough to leave a bad review. I hope the owners are willing to listen and discuss as I would love the local businesses to thrive.

Visited the ship over a year ago with family and friends and it was amazing however this time it was dreadful in all honesty.I ordered the 10oz sirloin steak which cost £24, the steak was completely tasteless and you could tell no seasoning was used when cooking, the only flavour on the steak was from the burn marks off of the griddle pan, the only way to get flavour on the steak was to cover it in salt and pepper and pour the whole contents of the Diane sauce onto it. Id expect this type of steak to be served to me at a cheap chain restaurant at half the price, the £24 price tag is completely unjustified when the chef can?t even season the meat with the bare minimum of salt and pepper. My partner had ordered a half parmo which cost just under £11, the overall taste wasn?t actually that bad however it was really small and had a total of 3 pieces if pepperoni and 4 jalopeno slices. I?d of said it was closer to a child?s portion and definitely wasn?t worth the price. For drinks I?d ordered a pint of birra moretti and a fosters, the moretti was £6.20 which is very steep for the vast majority of pubs in the teeside area or even the north east for that matter, you could clearly tell there was something off with either the barrel or taps as it had a weird aftertaste. The fosters was £4.80 which again is very steep considering it?s one of the cheapest beers in most other pubs.Overall the food and drinks were very disappointing for the price, the food and drinks menu is tiny compared to what it used to be and the portions are considerably smaller as well yet the prices have stayed the same or at least very similar. I think you?d be better off going to a hungry horse or Greene king or just about any other pub in the teeside area as they would be cheaper and the food would be better. The new ownership need to make some big changes asap as this place was renowned for its lovely food and atmosphere. Finally To top it all off when I went to pay I got sprayed all over my full upper body from the bad birra moretti tap as the bar man was pouring a drink and I received no apology. I won?t be returning again and feel my £70 was completely wasted tonight, I?ll stick to the usuals next time such as the apple tree, prickly pear and olivellos in Middlesbrough

Table booked for 5pm, email received to confirm the booking. Turned up to then be told kitchen closed due to ?circumstances?. Wasted trip. A call or email to inform us of this would have been nice. Went to the crown in kirklevington instead.

We decide to try The Ship after it reopened in December 2023. It was quite good. It was a quiet night between Christmas and New Year. We had potato skins with a tasty sauce and then I opted for the sausages and mash, which were yummy. There was a bit of a lack of atmosphere but it was a decent experience and we'll give them another go in the summer

Tried to order scampi and was told "sold out." After ordering we then waited over an hour and STILL hadn't been served! No apology or explanation by staff. Appears there were other dissatisfied customers too that night. Absolutely appalling.
