Needs updating in public areas and definitely needs re painting out side, the idea of paying up to and beyond £200a night for a double room then not able to book a table for dinner strange but to find out pot luck for a table then go and order drinks and food at the bar for the hotel of that standing and cost did not seem correct, perhaps I am old fashioned and in a restaurant expect waiter service not much to ask for.

Food & drinks: What has happened to this iconic hotel? We have stayed a couple of times a year up to last Christmas plus drop in visits. Our 3 day Christmas package in 2023 was special with those little touches that make a difference. The 2024 prospectus looks second rate by comparison. The silver service restaurant has been replaced by a self service arrangement which is average pub standard. Even coffee and biscuits are downgraded with excuses for biscuits. The old sweeping reception area has been replaced by an add on to the bar. When we dine in the superb restaurant setting of the Midland, perhaps for an anniversary, we do not expect self service with cutlery in a basket. The Midland was rescued in the 1990s by an organisation that restored its 1930s prestige. The new owners have downgraded it to a mediocre offering. They have clearly decided that this is the business model for them.We shall not be returning and I suspect many others will take the same view.

We visited today for afternoon tea and were not disappointed. Unfortunately the weather was dreadful otherwise the setting would have been perfect . I'm sure the views are splendid in fine weather. The food was delicious . The sandwiches were freshly made and tasty. The scones were very good and served with lemon curd as well as jam and creamThe cake selection was excellent. If you are too full to finish your copious serving a cake box can be provided to take " leftovers " homeThe tea was good and another pot provided on requestWe had a lovely time and would recommend a visit

Decent place, just needs an upgrade. The hotel in its day would have been excellent.Rooms: Rooms are decent sized and clean. Curtains let in a lot of light so could have been better. I think the whole hotel could do with a refresh as it looks like it would have been very grand in its day.Walkability: Great walk along seafront.

Stayed for 1 night to break a journey. Had a sea view and eat at hotel, nice food and good portion size. Room quirky as loo hidden behind L shaped door, had small balcony and plenty of toiletries.

A place with huge potential.Magnificent architecture, atmospheric furnishings, spacious, sparkling clean rooms. Food and drinks at reasonable prices reflecting their quality. One note: the charming and polite waiters are still learning their craft. I hope they will be fully trained during the peak season.
