I had an eye problem and needed to visit an Optometrist that could check this. I was glad I 'phoned Cargills Ashford and the 'phone was answered by a lovely receptionist who was understanding, professional and efficient in booking me in to an imminent appointment. When I arrived she implemented COVID safety procedures, requesting I use the hand sanitizer and took my temperature. I also noticed she was wiping every surface. My appointment with the optometrist was about 40/45 minutes and I felt confident that the check I had was thorough as the optometrist explained everything to me, he also answered all my questions which was reassuring. Thank-you Cargills Ashford staff for a great service.

The opticians are lovely, but unfortunately they employ the rudest receptionist I have ever come across. Today, after I arrived for my appointment, she asked me for my phone number, as I'd not picked up the phone yesterday when she called to confirm my appointment. I told her that it was fine - I had seen the call from her, but hadn't been able to answer the call as I was in a meeting. She continued to insist that I actually read out my number - effectively calling me a liar when I said that I'd received the call. Later, when it was 9 minutes after the start time of my appointment, I asked how late they were running, as I had another appointment to go to. She said that they were not late as the optician was in his room (!) and then proceeded to harangue me again about how rude I was concerning the phone number. Sorry, but after one previous run-in with this receptionist, this is enough, and I will not return. I see from other comments that other people have found the same. This receptionist does not seem to be cut out for her career, one in which you would imagine a basic liking and trust of other people would be key personality traits.

My mother recently went here to get her eyes tested. The optician was very good but the lady who was tasked with getting the the glasses to try on, after saying she was going to collect some glasses to try on, then disappeared, leaving my mother waiting in the opticians room. She was left waiting 20 minutes before she went to see what had happened to this lady. She was informed by the receptionist that this lady had left the building to go home. The receptionist said she was unaware anyone was still waiting despite my Stepfather and my Mothers mobility trolley waiting in the reception area. Very poor.

Quirky in the best way. I've been coming here since I was a child yet somehow Cargill's still suits me. You get really good eye care and, despite looking really old fashioned, they have a good selection of on trend frames. You can really take your time trying them all on and noone hassles you.

Helpful staff who go out of their way to help, and if you prefer a traditional eye test, then this is the place (last done I went to one of the big chains their test was wrong and was actually worse for my eyes)

Absolutely terrible customer service I would strongly advice that the reception staff go on a training course about customer service. I went into the shop today and the staff were extremely rude and very condescending, I will not be returning and would not advise this optician.

The best optician we have ever been to, Cathy is so thorough and explains everything in detail. I wouldn't trust my family's eyesight with anyone else!
