Closed and for sale!

I have booked all the rooms for the weekend of the 11/12th Nov. I am concerned about the current situation regarding the ownership. There is no number that works to call the pub to discuss my booking as I need to know if it will definitely go ahead?

Large group of us arrived in dribs and drabs. Lovely food, priced competitively, served in a timely manner. Sincere staff eager to keep guests happy. Lovely stream at the bottom of the garden. Dogs seemed welcome. Disabled loo, with baby change a good facility, 8/10 for cleanliness here on this busy day. Pub tables and clearing was fine.

Lovely pub! It's huge! With plenty of parking and lots of choice of food and drinks with outdoor seating areas. Very near to Old Winchester Hill that is a fantastic walk with incredible views. Worth a visit most definitely. Lovely staff. I normally take photos in the pub but was so relaxed I just enjoyed my surroundings I forgot! But it's very clean and well presented.Nearby activities: Local walks and hiking are great!Food & drinks: Great food and drink options.

So here's a great activity. We journeyed to Old Winchester Hill along Hayden Lane to walk our dog. On the way back we were thirsty and hungry, so, since the George and Falcon was opposite the junction for the lane, we drove in. It was a mid week afternoon so very quiet there, but dog friendly so perfect. Plenty of choice for seating, be it arm chairs, regular tables, veranda with garden tables or benches out by the river. The owners were lovely and hospitality light hearted and welcoming. We sat down to gorgeous food. What a pleasant surprise this place was. Lovely walk, lovely meal, great day.Nearby activities: The blast of fresh air that is the walk at Old Winchester Hill, a short drive up Hayden lane.Food & drinks: High quality food that is well presentedNoteworthy details: Dog friendly

Strange pub/hotel/restaurant. There was a wake on, yesterday and amazingly no one had thought to inform the G&F that they were coming? So no food had been ordered and the management were scrambling to get the required food orders ready. This obviously had a bearing on the general bar service, but the wait wasn't excessive and the 2 men working, managed to keep on top of everything... although I suspect the arrival of 28 unexpected guests would have caused some consternation and angst?Plenty of seating both inside and out... lovely riverside dining area is definitely a highlight. Reasonable sized car park, but caution is needed for entry and exit as it is on a very busy road.Prices are just north of average, but acceptable for a special occasion.

Called in unplanned and had the best fish and chips ever. Fish was freshly cooked sea bass with a thin batter and it was so tasty. Although no sides on menu they happily did us some garlic mushrooms and onion rings cooked freshly and large portions. Would not hesitate to go back and try other items on the menu. Very freindly and welcoming

Pure chance brought us to the George and falcon for lunch today and what a happy accident. The service was excellent, staff really friendly and chatty and the food was delicious. The carbonara was the best I've had, teaming with flavour and bacon. They are also the only place around who do Chessey chips :)If you are looking for good food, good value, and friendly landlord and team, this pub is absolutely worth a visit.Thank you guys for a very pleasant lunch and chuckles over the menu items. Will be back ?

Very disappointing visit to the George & Falcon for a Sunday roast. First visit for a few years and really looking to it but on arrival the virtually empty car park might have been a clue of what was to come. In fairness we received a friendly and warm welcome but it went downhill from that point forward. The pub was completely empty other than one other couple. We were invited to sit anywhere we wanted to, although we had booked so would have expected a table set up in readiness. We had a roast - one beef and one lamb. The meals were delivered by two young waiters who thought the lamb was pork which was a tad amusing! We had to ask for sauces, not offered to us. We also had to then request cutlery, and after two attempts I eventually was given a child?s fork. The only choice of white wine was Pinot as they were awaiting a delivery the following day. To say the lamb was mainly fat and gristle is a fair description - see photos. The beef was dry and tough. We pointed out the amount of fat on the lamb to the waitress and her only response was to tell us that as a rule she never has lamb at home as it?s always fatty! We asked her to raise with the chef as, frankly, we were amazed that he?d sent it out with so much fat. Heard nothing back and no apology. Will not return in a rush.

Very friendly and obliging staff! A lovely riverside garden and a good selection of drinks. Runs a bit thin on No/Lo drinks if you're the designated driver though. The food is excellent.

We thought we would give the place a try again as we haven't been since it has been taken over by new staff. We have always liked the actual pub. It's very spacious and the garden is lovely next to the river and it's dog friendly (bonus) We visited on a Thursday evening. It was quiet. The man behind the bar was friendly. The menu was very limited. We decided on a burger and scampi. It came out quickly. The portions were a fare size. The burger wasn't that great. A thin patty with a bit of bacon. No salad leaf or slice of tomato. Just meat in a bun. The peas were dreadful! Would have been good to use in a pea shooter to cause some damage though. The salad was fresh which was nice and the scampi was fine. Just a bit average but edible.

By a stream in pretty location. Wednesday lunchtime is Motorbike meet day and one evening not sure which. Dog friendly, Taz loved it. Not sure about GF as didn't eat. Lots of guys tucking in to special Wednesday lunch menu. Good selection of ale. ?
