Took car for MOT, I found all the staff I dealt with pleasant and very helpful. Highly recommended.

Multiple amateur mistakes, poor customer care & scarily unprofessional. This review is on behalf of my mother, & I am happy for Halfords to seek clarification on anything I write below, as I will try to be as factual as possible. My mother took her Nissan Micra to Northenden Halfords in late September 2023, for an MOT and service. She was told that the front tyres needed changing, which she agreed to. After paying for this service, MOT and tyre change, my mother drove off. Soon after driving away, a warning light appeared on the display screen, indicating a fault. My mother took the car back to Halfords the following day. Upon inspecting this issue, Halfords said that this was nothing to do with them, and needs to be looked at by a car electrician. So, when this was inspected by an independent car electrician, costing £80, he realised that the new front tyres where actually the wrong size, triggering this warning light. So the car was taken back to Halfords with the fact that the wrong tyres had in fact been fitted. They were embarrassed and replaced the tyres. This process took 2-3 weeks and my mother was not able to use the car due to being worried about it's safety. I would have forgiven Halfords if their incompetence had ended there. But it didn't.Fast forward to January 2024. My mother is paying for her road tax online. This was declined, as it showed that she did not have an MOT?!?! This was supposed to have been done by Halfords, and paid for, 3 months ago?!? Upon visiting Halfords again, my mother was told that she had indeed paid for an MOT in September 2023, but they hadn't done it! So, she had been unknowingly driving with an expired MOT for just over 3 months. You can forgive one mistake, but multiple and basic mistakes indicate a fundamental fault in the running of this store. I wouldn't recommend this location to my worst enemy. They didn't even compensate my mother for the £80 spent at another garage to look into the matter for us, and figure out that the wrong tyres were fitted by Halfords, nevermind the stress encountered driving what was an unsafe car, and one that has not been MOT checked when we had paid for it.

Really not impressed with this location. Booked in for MOT & full service at 8:30am the other week. When I dropped it off the man I dealt with already let me know they were overbooked. By the end of the day they could only do the MOT. I was assured when I brought it back in it wouldn?t be a problem to do the service and tyre repair. They were again backed up and didn?t get my car up till near the end of the day. Then rang and said the locking wheel nut key wasn?t in the car so couldn?t repair the tyre. I asked them to look in a specific place and was told it wasn?t there? of course we got home and it was there.Honestly, to have brought the car in twice, rearranged our schedules and now I need to arrange another repair for my car when it could and shave been done then and there? I won?t be going back. The staff on the 2nd also didn?t seem to be at all bothered when I said I might just pick up the car and get a refund when I wasn?t convinced the service would be done in time.

Really bad experience!. I used to trust and fix my car in Halfords since 2019, but with the experience I had with this branch will think twice before I take my car again.I have MB c class 2013 petrol. Got check engine light on in January 2024. Booked for diagnostic check and went to this branch on 25th. They told me it?s an oxygen sensor 1 problem. I said ok I did that the last year in Halfords and it?s still in the warranty period. They said it shouldn?t fail in one year, we need to investigate more. Kept on putting me off for staff shortage. On 16 February the technician checked the car and they told it?s the NOX sensor not the oxygen sensor. I asked how they knew they refused to say and asked them to change it for me they said we don?t do it and at the end they refused to give me a report. They asked me to go to Mercedes to fix it.After searching online I realised that this model has no NOX sensor!. I went to another Halford branch who assured me that there is no NOX sensor in this model and they changed the oxygen sensor for me.I consider what happened as waste of time, disregard and disrespect. The successful business is based mainly on the trust between the customer and the service provider. If you don?t know that there is NOX sensor in this model you shouldn?t lie to me and if you know that there isn?t and you told me there is it?s even worser.

Terrible service, not the first time I?ve been treated badly by Halfords. If you are a female I DO NOT recommend going here as they try to take advantage. First time I went they tried to charge me over £600 for a battery change and then after speaking to my Dad reduced the price to £300?!?On this occasion, I took my car in for a brake fluid change. They rang to tell me that they had broken my locking wheel nut when trying to take it off and then tried to charge me £85 for it to be replaced. We obviously refused to pay this after they had caused damage to the car so the brake fluid change couldn?t go ahead. As I went to drive off in my car I noticed that they had also damaged the gear stick! The gear stick cap had been snapped off. Not only were they unable to do the job I had booked in for my car is now worse off than it was before! They were not apologetic in the slightest, their attitude towards young females is disgusting and unprofessional.

I had a tyre replaced at Halfords in September 2023 due to a nail. No problem...or so I thought. I was getting a slow loss of pressure in my new tyre that I noticed after a few longer journeys in my car. Took the car back to Halfords to resolve the issue (twice, due to the first person I called not booking me in). I left my car with them from 8:30-17:00 and they were only just getting to my car at 17:00. They returned it to me without resolving the issue, which I was disappointed with. I have now taken my car elsewhere and the issue was resolved in 15 minutes. I was informed by the other garage that it was likely Halfords staff had incorrectly fitted the valve to the new tyre as they had cut it, which had caused the leak in the first place! Taking my car to Halfords was honestly a waste of time and effort. I will definitely be taking my car elsewhere in the future.

I had my car booked in for an MOT and they parked it in the coop next door and now I have a parking fine!!! Be warned - shocking behaviour. After reading other reviews, it seems that it is a common thing that they do - I am a student and cannot afford this fineEDIT 4/11/2023 - Ruth, I have emailed and called the garage multiple times with zero response or resolution. So do not pretend you are willing to help out on here.

Came in after having some faults on my battery, got a new battery delivered and installed the next day, fitted very quickly. Friendly and professional staff.

Visiting Manchester I found myself on the m62 as the drivers window wiper decided it had had enough.it was certainly a hairaising experience in the rain .I only had a couple of days to get it sorted before I needed to return home ,I called many garages in the local area .I was quoted as much as £100 to sort it .I then called Halfords Autocentre on palatine Road and spoke to John who said to bring it down ,he was an absolute star who patched it up enough for me to return home and didn't charge a penny ,a real gentleman who certainly helped "a damsel in distress" definitely a garage I would use if I lived in the area ,

Refused to take my car in for a pre-booked appointment saying they had taken too many bookings. No explanation as to why this happened. Looking at previous reviews this isn?t the first time either. Sort yourselves out. Zero professionalism.

Not a female friendly environment. I booked an appointment online a few days prior however on the day I was told to arrive 30 mins earlier than the time I had chosen. When I arrived ( ahead of the new time they had asked for ) they told me they could no longer go ahead with my appointment and that I would have to leave my car overnight as they had started work on another car. If I had been late to my appointment this would be understandable, but they offered me 0 explanation as to why they had started on another vehicle when I had arrived on time. I asked multiple times as to why my appointment was being pushed to the following day, I was offered 0 explanation and told " thats just the way it is". It seems that if I were a man, they would have been more inclined to offer me an explanation and apologise, but because I am a young female, they did nothing of the sort. Very disappointing.
