I stayed here whilst hiking the Cotswold Way. I also had dinner and breakfast at the pub.ROOMI stayed in the Cosy Double. First impression is it's a small but lovely room. I had the double room to myself, my luggage was a backpack and I didn't need to unpack much from my pack. There was just enough room to walk round the bed. The wardrobe was four coat hangers on the bathroom door and there was a chair to put things on. There was also a cupboard with the tea/coffee making material on it and a hairdryer in the cupboard. Where do you put your cases? If you unpack any clothes where do you store them? And if there are two of you!!! Bizarrely the pub has added to the problem by placing four large cushions on top of the pillows. Where do you put these? I dumped them on the floor next to the side of the bed I wasn't using. See the photos. This is not a double unless you are a couple of naturists staying here for the night. Adding some drawers and replacing the bed with a single, it is an adequate single.DINNERThe pub was packed and there were two members of staff handling the bar and restaurant. They were rushed off their feet and doing their best in the circumstances. A couple in front of me looking for a table for two were told that the restaurant was full of diners who hadn't booked and that the numbers hadn't been expected. Well I had booked but presumably they wanted my table, that could seat two in the restaurant, to have two diners so dumped me in the bar. The food was ok but service suffered.BREAKFASTIt was good of the pub to leave a breakfast menu in my room. I spent time choosing. When I get to the dining room it turns out the menu is different and they don't have the scrambled egg and smoked salmon I had chosen in the bedroom.Butcombe Brewery own the pub and ought to do better than this.

We stayed at the Lion Inn for one night while walking part of Cotswolds Way. It has a cozy, quintessential pub downstairs which served delicious dinner and breakfast. Our room was spectacular - beautifully decorated, comfortable, and quiet. Would definitely stay here again if we find ourselves in Winchcombe again!

I loved everything about this place. It has all the little touches that make me happy. Proper coffee in the rooms, massive comfy feather pillows, Staff who welcome you and make you feel at home. Amazing breakfast choices. Beautiful old building. There is nothing I didn't love. I will be back.

The food was really delicious. However the service was slow and inaccurate. We had to ask several times for items. Incorrect drinks were served. We were left without service for most of the meal. It was difficult to attract attention of staff - a young lad was trying his best but was clearly out of his depth. The priorities of the staff were bizarre- clearing tables whilst we waited to be served drinks and have our orders taken. The older lady in charge was aloof and made mistakes with our orders as she was distracted by other things. The bar staff were run ragged. I felt like they over booked too many people in and couldn't cope. I resented paying a service charge which was included in the bill! A lovely meal spoilt sadly.

A 500 year old inn with a lot of character. Lovely log fire, attentive staff and a nice Sunday roast. Party of 4, all of us satisfied. They allow dogs too.Food & drinks: Good selection of beers and a decent looking wine list.

Was visiting the area and only had lunch, which was fine. Can't comment on the accommodation etc.

What a superb place to stay! Our room was fantastic and the service was friendly and prompt. We were staying to visit our son and grandchildren and we all had a very good dinner on the Saturday evening! Our breakfast was fresh and hot.The bar has a quintessentially Cotswold feel to it with a crackling fire and cost armchairs!I would recommend the Lion to anyone!

We stayed for 2 nights in February. The rooms are cosy and comfortable although the lighting is rather dim but appropriate for the cosiness of the rooms. The only thing that let our room down was the curtains which were not wide enough to cover the window space allowing light in. This is probably ok in the winter but would be more of a problem when the mornings are lighter. The breakfast?s were excellent as was the dinner when we ate at the pub. The staff weee friendly and helpful. Check in and out was a smooth and easy process. We would definitely recommend as a place to stay when exploring this part of the Cotswolds
