    Came for a Mother’s Day Sunday roast. I appreciate it’s a very busy day but the service was shocking.Firstly, hardly any items on the menu available. Our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect back drop for savouring the hearty seasonal pub food on our menus and the carefully nurtured matured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar. The Castle at Great Leighs (formerly St Anne’s Castle) is situated between Braintree and Chelmsford and has stood on the site for hundreds of years. The Castle is steeped in spooky local legends, these tales tell of spirits haunting the pub and grounds of The Castle, including the witch that was burnt at the stake at Scrapfaggots Green.
