Just been to this shop to drop off a heavy box of donations, only to see and be told they?re ?closed to donations? This is the third time I?ve been and been turned away! I won?t ever be returning again, especially as I?ve driven all the way from Brentwood on a busy Saturday afternoon! Fuming!

Spoke to manager offering to buy broken jewellery for crafting. She said she had a huge laundry basket of donated jewellery but had to take it home to sort through it to remove valuable items. That, I understand, but the costume jewellery never gets back to the shop. I know Barnados Ebay it in bulk at a highly inflated price but put some in your shops! Not everyone has an Ebay account

Don?t try to donate at Barnados Chelmer Village unless you want a very unpleasant experience!Staff chased my elderly mother out of the shop after she dropped off one small bag of good quality items to the donation area. They chased her to say they weren?t accepting donations & that she was on CCTV!! We can?t understand the need to threaten a pensioner over a carrier bag sized donation, but their web page says they?re accepting donations, their phone number is not in use, and their staff are rude & threatening!Take it to farleighs instead, they ask you to book & are grateful for your support. Won?t donate to barnados again.

This charity shop has got to be the worst I have ever been to. The staff, especially manager was so rude. This is ment to be a charity to help children. A child with special needs saw something they really liked (transformer) and when the manager was asked how much for the item, she replied I'm selling it on eBay I will get more money for it. I was shocked! The boy really wanted the item, clearly this shop is more for money than helping the children or the local people of the area. Charity was first set up to help the local people in the area as well as helping what the charity is based around. This shop is over priced and not for the people. I would be interested to know what they pay there managers. I must say there was only one member of staff I came across a elderly lady (clearly a volunteer) who was very nice. The rest is a disgrace to the organisation. Avoid this charity shop and give to other charity shops in Chelmsford

Would leave 0 stars if possible awful experience and this has just confirmed to me its not about charity no more, went to pay for 2 items and the lady refused to sell me one of the items apprently the price was wrong and assumed I changed the price tag how insulting then says its worth more. Shops mistake not mine will never shop at over priced barnardos again. All about making money for the pockets of those who run the charity and not for the kids at all

Every time I go in this shop the staff are very abrupt and rude to the point that I won't go in any more with my donations

Very expensive charity shop. £8 she a shein dress that probably cheaper to buy off of the website. They charge too much for what is free stuff they receive. Whoever prices all the stock up needs a talking to and to realise one of the the whole point of a charity shop is so that people who may not have alot of money can maybe find themselves a bargain

Every time I?ve been in here to donate items the staff have been rude

I?d give zero stars if that was possible. EXTREMELY rude staff that do not abide by the law. I picked up a teapot that was priced at £3 when I went to pay for it alongside other items I was abruptly shouted at and told that I couldn?t haven?t it at that price because the label had been changed, accusing me of swapping labels. The man continued with his arrogance in telling me that ?it happens all the time people coming in and changing labels and then changing their mind and putting it back?. He then continued with his arrogant attitude towards me and continued to hint that I?d changed the price. How dare you accuse me of changing prices. At the height of this I was then approached by a woman who was also incredibly rude. She joined in with the man and agreed with him on changing the price, as a matter of fact doubling it. She stated we have 3 people here pricing so someone has priced it wrong and we don?t know who it is. I questioned this as 2 out of the 3 were now involved so surely they would know that if neither of them priced it then it would be the 3rd individual who priced. The woman then stated there?s different people daily. Even so if it was that?s the price and nothing can override that price especially when a customer is waiting to pay. Whilst I was waiting to pay for my other goods the man pushed the teapot to one side of the counter and said ?just take it or leave it? in the coldest angry voice he could do. This is voluntary work no one forces you to be there, it?s about you wanting to contribute your time to help a charity succeed in its mission and the only way a charity can do that is with money and donations from generous people and volunteers are there to make sure everything runs smoothly and donations are cared for and to make sure everyone has a lovely experience, not just by finding something they wish to purchase but knowing their money is going to a good cause. Honestly this experience has made me reluctant to go to Barnardo?s which is such a shame as I?ve supported the charity for years and when they had their shop at Moulsham Lodge the staff were all so lovely, just like you?re visiting a friends house. More importantly it?s such a shame for Barnardo?s to have staff like you. I feel so sorry for them as a charity as great as they are deserves so much better.
