I visit HMV a lot (I?m a massive music nerd) and I always find this branch has the best stock selection and layout. The staff are always enthusiastic and friendly too!

Decently sized HMV with an array of items from music to movies to anime and gaming. If you fit into one of these categories, there should be something here for you.

I'm only in my 20s but I'm going to sound like a grumpy old man here- last time I visited the store had switched their shelves around and stuff and the cd selection has been hugely reduced. I get it, CDs don't sell anymore, but as someone that does buy em I don't have reason to visit this store anymore. Was great to see the hmv open back up near me in Eastbourne, but as I expected it focuses more on pop culture stuff and vinyl. So it was great making the trek to the larger Brighton store, where they still had a proper section for CDs, still sorted by genre. Now it's been moved about there's far less selection, which means the genres I'm most interested in (metal/ punk) have a vastly reduced selection, so there's barely anything I would buy now, and I have to dig through every other genre trying to find what I'm after instead of just browsing the whole section. The staff here are always lovely though, bunch of legends.

Get 'down with the kids' at this epicentre of yoof culture. All music tastes and genres catered for and a good slice of pop literature to boot. Vinyl, cds and dvds aplenty all with matching tee shirts.

Seems the company is more a comic book store type vibe in the last few years ...(not a bad thing) this one is nice as not as busy as some ive visited. Lots to see and buy if you like memorabilia from music/movies

I went there looking for funko pops but I found a lot of stuff I didn't know even existed like funko mystery boxs (for a very good price) and good sized posters

What can I say about HMV the store has absolutely changed over the years. And I believe now is doing a great job to stay relevant with not just media, but shirts, books. Soft toys and other related geek ? shop items.

This one's had a bit of a re-org since our last visit 3 months ago. Love a mooch around here and usually find something to buy plus they often have live music in the store. Very much enjoyed a punk band called Phat Problem.Don't come here if you want Star Trek mem though, there's very little apart from a few films. My boyfriend was very disappointed.

Used to love HMV in Brighton, would go in at least once a week and make purchases often. However this new refit is pretty dreadful. I go in because I love collecting films physically and they had a really good selection of boutique labels. However the new refit has completely gutted the film section in favour of tacky toys and confectionary. I understand that there is a market for this so I can't fault them for going where the money is, but I wish they hadn't reduced the film section to such a small section. They still have some boutique releases but they're a shadow of what they were, and they've made the perplexing decision to mix world cinema into the rest of the films which makes it harder to locate and discover world Cinema. There's a couple of other decent physical movie stores in Brighton that still respect the medium so I am sad to say that I will no longer be visiting HMV.

The streaming revolution is here but I like HMV because I like to actually own my music collection rather than rent it from unscrupulous businesses that will push up the price when the shareholders say so or they just want more money. So many DVD's just sitting waiting to be taken back to 2001?!!Lots of Vinyl for the analogue crew, I wish more artists still released music on CD or in a high bitrate online.

Best just Google anything you see and buy online. Staff felt angry. Shelfs had many damaged and full priced clearance items.

made first visit today after the "refit" and to be honest not that impressed, what happened to the dvd/bluray section, it's about one fifth of the size from before, the world cinema section has now been mixed in with the mainstream Hollywood releases, why?, also can't under stand why the vinyl section has been pushed back into a corner at the rear of the store especially as it's enjoying it's biggest resurgence in years, it was perfect where it was, only positive so far was the new lighting (it was needed). I hoping that some of my criticisms may be the fact it's only just re-opened and I will visit again in a couple of weeks but if nothing has been improved then I'll just order online instead like I'm sure most people will now do.

What on earth has happened to this place? When did HMV turn into a toy shop? Was a good record shop a couple of months ago. Now there is barely anything there. Very sad.

When I saw that HMV Brighton was closed for a refit I was worried that they would turn it into a ?pop culture? tat shop like the branches in Crawley and Eastbourne. And, sadly, that?s exactly what?s happened. HMV used to be a music shop, now there?s just a dwindling selection of CDs and over priced vinyl in a small corner right at the back of the shop. I was looking for a couple of new album releases that came out yesterday, but wasn?t surprised to find that they didn?t have either of them. Oh, well, at least I could have had some Korean sweets or an Anime figurine as a consolation.
