Conveniently located in the center. Can get crowded as usually minimally staffed.

Yesterday, (24/10/23) at 5:30 I was humiliated by a member of staff (female, short dark hair, aged 50+). After waiting in the queue for 5 minutes which I wasn't bothered about really, I understand that the post office can be clogged up I approached the counter, making a joke in an attempt to break the awkwardness of the fact I needed to post a large number of letters. "I'm really sorry I'm going to be your worst nightmare today I have 40 letters to send". What I expected to be a joke response I was greeted with a shocked face "I haven't got time for that", to that I was visibly taken aback to be told to my face she didn't have the time or clearly effort to deal with my letters, I understand that 40 letters is a lot I'd packaged them, printed and labelled them myself which wasn't an easy task however when your job is to work in a post office surely you would expect to have to send customers letters. When I questioned why she wouldn't send my letters she told me "I have to sort the post" - now I don't regularly frequent the post office but I assumed that sorting the post would be organising boxes or something similar, she looked at me and said "do you not know the post goes at 4:45" making me feel so belittled and embarrassed, no I didn't know that and unfortunately if you need to sort the post out before it goes I suggest closing the front desk entirely for 5 minutes while it's sorted. She told me to wait, and she went into the travel money exchange office where I heard her, and her colleague discuss how I am an idiot for trying to post 40 letters at this time. The office didn't close for another hour at this point so you can understand my confusion I have previously worked in hospitality and if a customer comes in even 10 mins before your due to close you still serve them. So, whilst I had stepped aside to wait, I expected her to do "sort the post" when instead she continued to serve other customers and have conversations about America and Germany with one specific girl. What I can't understand is why she couldn't have started my letters and mid-way through stopped when the post needed to go as she did this with another customer. Instead, she made me stand at the front desk in front of all the other customers whilst her and her colleague looked me up and down. The bell then went for the post, and to my complete shock "sorting the post" means closing up the bags and placing them at the door, I cannot understand why this was such a stress for her and why I was made to wait Is this normal protocol, to make those with larger amounts of post to wait for 20 minutes in front of everyone.I was finally served by her other colleague at another desk but instead of giving me an apology or a thank you for waiting I was instead called over by a scream of "Next" and another mucky luck. After weighing the letters, the lady asked me how I wanted them to go, before I could even finish saying, "however is cheapest" she stared at me and demanded "first or second", I replied with second which received an eyeroll and a tut.I have honestly never had an experience like this in a post office before and I once had to wait an hour for a queue at the Woodhall way store as signal had dropped in the area, and even that was a nicer experience at least I received an apology and a thank you for waiting. It's clear that some people shouldn't work in customer service or at least need some more training on how to be polite.

I have complained about the decline in service in Smiths ever since the move from next Guild Hall and, while it seems to have improved a little- I guess in response to widespread complaints- it is still awfully understaffed and queues unconscionably slow to work customers up to the counter.

!! DO NOT USE FOR AMAZON RETURNS !!I took an item in for return to amazon, the lady behind the counter scanned my QR code, got a bag with an amazon sticker on it ready and told me I would receive an email acknowledging it's return but didn't know when, I was given no actual receipt. Over a week later and still no email and amazon have not received the item. My wife popped into Beverley Post Office in WHSmith on Toll Gavel a few days later, they took my phone number from her and said they would give me a call, I have had no call. So I am now £39.99 out of pocket for the faulty item I wanted returning to amazon. !! DO NOT USE FOR AMAZON RETURNS !!

Use this post office daily. The staff deserve medals for not punching rude and ignorant customers! They work their socks off for minimum pay, short staffed due to THE COMPANY not sending relief staff when usual staff are ill, they take abuse and complaints all day long. So if you think they are "too slow" or "not enough staff on" get urself an application form and join the payroll!!

Staff are far to slow. Long lines. I feel sorry for WH Smith having a line of people taking up the whole shop.

Always horrendous queues, can be 40 odd waiting and 1 counter staff?.and that?s it. They smile politely?.after all we should be grateful that they deem to give us terrible service. Prime example of abuse of a monopoly?..
