Excellent small church standing on the North Walls on the east side of the gateway into the town. The most complete example of a Saxon church in Dorset dating back to 1020AD. Interesting 12th century fresco of St Martin. Notable for the effigy of T E Lawrence given to the church in 1939 showing Lawrence in Arab dress, curved dagger in hand.

Excellent and extremely rare example of an intact Saxon Church. Mostly they worked in wood. Here in stone. Wall paintings are in evidence. Great place. Walk the walls of the town as well.

A delightful Saxon church built on the site of an older church. It's presence is one of the reasons Wareham retained it's town wall when so many other towns lost theirs. The church contains an effigy of TE Lawrence, who died nearby, and a number of much oldesr frescoes.

A beautiful small Saxon church oozing with history across the walls. Wareham is a fantastically historic town and the church is well worth a visit. The memorial to T.E. Lawrence was a surprise but incredibly interesting to read up on in the church.

Beautiful little church with origins dating back to Saxon times, so there are sections that are over 1,000 years old. There are interesting frescoes and memorials painted on the walls and a memorial effigy of TE Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia). Well worth a visit if you have a spare half hour.

A millenium old church dating fromsaxon times. There was a volunteer keeping the church open on 12th August at 3 pm. Thanks to her for letting tourists admire this wonder.

Fantastic. When we visited, they had some merchandise (bags, mugs etc.) for sale celebrating 1000 years (one.thousand.years) of this wonderful church. I couldn't decide on whether to purchase the mug or the bag, so went for the former. The haunting, moving effigy of T.E almost brings a tear to ones eye.

A beautiful church. Now celebrating 1,000 years this church was built in 1020. The main part of the Nave and all the Chancel are Saxon with addional North aisle which is Norman and West Wall rebuilt in the15th century. The church has frescos dating from the early 12th century telling the story of St Martin on the North Wall of the Chancel and at least 5 layers of frescos above the Chancel arch the latest being the arms of queen Anne 1713 surrounded by the 10 commandments. The church also contains a life-sized effigy of Lawrence of Arabia by Kennington. Lawrence knew and loved this little Church and visited it often even contributing to roof repairs of the Church. St Martin on the Walls is a working church - services every Wednesday 11am. Warm welcome to everyone. Open every day from mid morning to 4pm May close earlier in the winter.well worth a visit.

A lovely old church which was out of use for many years. Very small inside but still social distancing is maintained. The final resting place of T E Lawrence.
