“Treated by my wife for a birthday lunch this week. Ate in the restaurant mid week. As good a meal as we have had anywhere. Both Venison and duck as mains were delicious. Reasonably priced given the high standard. . £120 for 2 of us with 3 courses including drinks.Service was very good and attentive with atmosphere perfect for a special occasion. We will be back.Parking: A huge carpark on site”

“We were a party of 7 for Sunday Lunch, the meal was a roast the beef I had was so tender and plenty of it too, a good selection of fresh vegetables and crispy roast potatoes. The Apple and Blackberry cake with clotted cream was delicious, I would really recommend a Sunday lunch here. Thank you to the efficient and friendly staff”

“We where down in castle brake with my in laws when the caravan sprang a water leak. Found it to be a push connection. We found marquis online just a 5 minute drive from our location. We popped in with the part that had failed asked for help and they had the part we needed and also some extras we picked up as spares (just in case) friendly and helpful staff good prices will use again as the van is now on a seasonal pitch.”

“Really great service. We went in on Saturday and were warmly greeted by Donna Martin. We immediately saw a lovely sofa set, sat down on it and fell in love!Donna walked us through the finance options and was exceptionally friendly throughout - no pushy sales, letting us make the decisions. We came back a few days later having made our decision and Donna’s manner was exactly the same - friendly, courteous and not over burdensome. We’ve come out with an exceptional sofa set and could not recommend Furniture Village and in particular Donna more.”

“This was the third hotel we stayed at on this UK trip. We arrived a few hours before the stated check in time and instead of "you can check in now, but I'll have to charge you for an extra day" we were told that the room would probably be ready in an hour - they'd let us know and we were welcome to have a drink or some lunch. We had both a drink and some lunch and then we were informed that the room was ready and our bags had already been taken upstairs. No extra charge. And unlike so many hotels these days, they actually tidy the room and change out the linens on a daily basis. Just like before Covid! The staff are delightful. After a day or so the staff get to know you and what your preferences are. They brought me glasses of water when I was sitting outside without being asked. The bartenders were very good at mixing cocktails and perfectly made drinks they were unfamiliar with. The food in the restaurant was exceptionally good, although we had one hiccup with a breakfast. We only had dinner there one evening - for a group of 8. It was a bit pricy but the service made it worth it. Very close to the cathedral and shopping. Staff suggestions for dining outside the property were mostly very good. I wish they'd had a lift as it was very difficult for me to navigate the stairs, but I was aware of that before we arrived and I managed. (They did bring the bags down for us when we checked out.) We were a group of three couples staying and they were very accommodating. Any deficiencies are made up by the excellence of the staff.”

“We had a premiere plus room, which was very well fitted out, when we came to use the shower we couldn’t get it to work! While we were at breakfast they went to the room and got it working, when we tried it it wouldn’t turn off, they came back to the room and couldn’t turn it off either, as we were only there for 1 night we left without a shower. The hotel was all good other than that.”

“We got the ensuite room without a view for £140 for two nights. It's an inn run by a small group of people. The people were really nice, and they lent us some shampoo/conditioner for coloured hair because I forgot to take some with me!However, when I got in the shower we realised that the shampoo/shower gel bottle was empty. My partner ran down and got us some but the bottle was clearly labeled "Dove hand wash", and smells/feels like it too so it's not in a different bottle. The floor as you can see had loads of hair on it so I don't know when it was last hoovered which is a bit gross. When we woke up we realised that the inn didn't do any breakfast/lunch. They didn't serve food until 2pm so advised us to get something from the Spa very near by.The room that we were staying in had no door handle so every time we were closing the door we had to slam the door. Some of the other rooms had a handle I think our one was just broke. One of our keys didn't work - not sure if that was meant for the outer door? It would be helpful if it could be labeled because I had to try the door twice every time which was slightly annoying. The location was brilliant, literally a 3 minute walk (if even) from Starcross train station. It was a 5 minute drive to Powderham castle, however taxis were £35 one way as the they come from Exeter so it was just extortionate. So if you could drive you should probably drive!Overall it was a nice enough stay, lots of niggly bits however the staff were very friendly. It probably just needs a bit of a fix up and more attention to detail though.”

“Exactly what you'd expect from a Travelodge - clean, tidy and no frills. Ground keeping was pretty poor outside, but not really a big issue and the bath was a bit dirty. Other than that it was all good.”
