Xmas 2022 at the cottages, the perfect venue for our extended family of 8 adults and 4 children, the Cottages are extremely well furnished and nothing is left out in terms of comfort and catering, including the very nice welcome hamper. The location is outstanding and the views in the local area are stunning, particularly from the top of Ewes Fell.We would use this location again whether as a large family or just as a couple looking to tour the local area, it's a great set up.The cottages are a credit to both Debbie & Max.

Highly recommended accomodation! Very very clean and what a view from the backyard. Everything you needed has been provided so you don?t need to worry too much. Co-op is just a few miles if you need to buy anything.
The hosts Debbie and Max are the best. Friendly, accommodating and very helpful if you have any queries. It is a peaceful area which we like and likewise it is a dog friendly accomodation. You can request for hot tub as an option with a very fair price to hire. It was amazing!
Everything was just wonderful and we could not ask for more.
More power to you Debbie and Max!

Wow!!! Where do I start? What an amazing weekend away we have had. Debbie and Max are honestly the loveliest people!! The house was just amazing.. so much thought has gone into every room. There were a group of 15 of us who stayed, the beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were clean. Max went through a thorough guide on how to use the hot tub and explained what times he would be checking the water and cleaning. The house was honestly amazing, couldn?t fault it. We have all said we would definitely come back. ?

Stayed here recently and really can?t sing the praises of Ashley Bank highly enough. The setting is idyllic with stunning views across the valley to the Howgills. Easy access from the doorstep on to the nearby fells for short strolls or the bigger walks the more adventurous and active in our group undertook. The hot tub was an added treat and reassuringly checked and cleaned each day at very sensible times in the day, usually when we were all out.Ashley bank was immaculately maintained and Max & Debbie (the owners) were so welcoming and helpful on arrival. Helping us quickly feel at home and excited to explore the local area.If you want a great place to escape with a small group of family or friends, this is the perfect place. Thank you again for a great break.

The area the cottages are located is idyllic. There are plenty of walks to do from the door, Kirkby Stephen is a short drive away, and the rest of the Dales and Lake District are all nearby. The cottages have some good facilities, particularly the hot tub, en-suites for most bedrooms and the laundry room. However, there were several issues that detracted from the experience:1. Dirty marks and hairs found in bed linen on arrival2. Pubic hairs in bathrooms3. The gas ran out on the Monday evening of our stay. This meant we could not cook in the main cottage kitchen and had no heating.4. Max (the owner) was rude and accusatory to one of the guests when enquiring about the gas situation, saying that it was likely the guests at fault for turning heating up/using the cooker too much.5. The gas engineer that visited the following day to remedy the issue stated that he had recommended to the owners that the gas cooker in the main cottage needs replacing and was also concerned that carbon monoxide alarms were not present.6. Flames shot out of the hob on the gas cooker towards one of the guests using it, narrowly missing them. This could have resulted in severe injury had they not reacted so quickly.7. The kitchen has one of the worst toasters known to man.8. The children's play area advertised on the website is out of order.9. Following our departure Max and Debbie sent a rather hyperbolic email informing us that our deposit would not be returned due to the following accusations: some pans and a baking tray that was not cleaned to their satisfaction, some splash marks in the kitchen and a bedroom bin that needed emptying. These are all minor cleaning jobs. There were no breakages, and no professional cleaning was hired, raising the question of why the £100 breakage deposit was not returned? If the owners are not capable/willing of such minor cleaning work on changeover day, then they should contract the work out to a professional cleaner. This would also remedy the cleanliness issues with the bedsheets.Overall, for Ashley Bank to be up to scratch, the following should be considered:1. A new (and safe) cooker in the main cottage kitchen2. A cleaner on changeover day3. Carbon Monoxide alarms wherever gas is present4. Improved customer service so that when issues arise, they can be rectified and not result in reviews like this.

This is a lovely property situated in lovely surroundings. It is perfect for exploring the Dales as well as the Lake District. The cottage is perfectly set up for hosting large families and is hugely benefited by having the smaller cottage opposite too. However please be very mindful before booking here for the following reasons -1. The gas. We didn't have gas for over 24 hours. Originally one of the owners suggsted: 'there must be a gas leak!' Calor did deliver the gas and no leak was found. The delivery had been missed off their system. The owners were still unsure on why all the gas had been used in such a short space of time. We advised the owners that their gas levels needed to be regularly checked.2. No carbon monoxide detector! When the owner said, 'it must be a gas leak' we asked one of the owners if they had a carbon monoxide detector? When he couldn't answer our question and was unsure, this was very concerning. Fortunately the gas engineer was there at the time and had a look for us and one wasn't found! Even though they had one before! Fortunately the owner gave us one from their property.3. The cleanliness. We've stayed in properties which are of a lot higher standard. Hairs in the beds, as well as pubic hairs in the showers were found. We were concerned that the beds weren't changed as you're asked not to strip them when you leave! We left the property 'as we found it,' we cleaned, emptied the bins and put the linen in the laudry room. Unfortunately the owners then sent us an email to say they wouldn't be reimbursing the £100 deposit, as according to them we hadn't left it 'as we found it.'4. The rudeness. They come across as very approachable and kind people. But as the week went on, we soon realised they weren't. At times we were very taken back by it. As we were departing, just before 10am, we were asked: 'are you leaving? We've got a lot to do it as it's such a quick turn around!'5. The cooker. It is unsafe and needs replacing immediately. Flames shot out the front of it. The owners have been advised to replace it by a gas engineer.6. The children's play equipment in the garden is out of use and needs replacing.7. Be prepared for the hot tub talk! There are signs up which are very self explanatory. The owner also comes round every day between 9.30 and 10.30 to clean it! Make sure you're not in there at the time as he'll stand there and watch you get out. Instead of waiting politely outside. If you've booked it for the week, you won't be able to use it after Wednesday evening.8. Check the bbq is clean on arrival before using it! It was left in a horrible condition and we had to clean it before using it (on the night we didn't have any gas).My advice to the owners, would be as follows -1. Be consciousness and polite. Customer service goes an incredibly long way. Remember the customer is always right.2. Replace the cooker immediately.3. Regularly check the gas reading so the same mistake isn't made again.4. Ensure carbon dioxide detectors are located where gas is present.5. Hire cleaners. We've never stayed at a property before where the owners do the cleaning! For an elderly couple this is a lot to do and obviously stresses them out.6. Don't clean the hot tub everyday. This is unnecessary and your occupants don't wish to see you everyday.7. Replace the climbing frame in the garden.8. Replace the electic heaters with log burners. These heaters are very poor quality, don't offer sufficient heat and cut out soon after putting them on.

An excellent place for a relaxing holiday with family. This was a return trip for our family of 16. For a self cattering establishment it has every conceivable piece of equipment one needs. The hot tub made it for everyone especially after a long day hill walking and the hosts keep it in tip top condition. We'll done to Debbie and Max (our hosts) will be back again.

Back from our holiday last week in Ashley Bank.
Beautifully decorated holiday cottage with all the amenities you need for a relaxed, quiet time away or to meet up with other family members.Max and Debbie were brilliant and couldn?t do enough for us, making us feel at home and giving us info on days out,dog walks and pubs!
Our 2 spaniels absolutely loved the huge garden to run free and chase eachother straight out of the back door all safe and enclosed! Great outdoor area for having a beer or 2 aswell.
All in all it was the best holiday cottage we have stayed in to date, very clean and spacious. The boot/laundry room is a great addition.
Thanks again Max and Debbie we will be back.
