On a damp Christmas eve, we had lunch of Pheasant curry, Prawn Baguettes and fresh tomato soup. Baguettes not actually on menu. Very friendly staff and customers. Everyone spoke to us. Warm and welcoming.

Hard to find the location and accessing the car park isnt easy to start with, after a few drinks a challenge, need to trim the hedges to make it easier to leave the premises. Good food and decent portion sizes, can?t complain great value for money and full of locals on quiz night fun location. Be great in the summer sitting out side.

If you want a place where everyone knows your name.... We visited for Sunday Lunch. Really friendly staff. Really nice food. Endless veg and meat that tasted of meat. The red cabbage and the cheese sauce - awesome. We will be visiting again.

We went there the other night as on holiday, what a lovely little pub, in good beer guide, so wasn?t surprised the beer was excellent, staff really friendly, good pub atmosphere, basic pub food, would totally recommend!

We were visiting Cornwall to deliver our son to a friend's wedding, with no other way for him to get there during a rail strike. It was a very long, wearisome journey - to and fro from Wiltshire. A comfortable watering hole was desperately needed!Thank heavens for google maps, which took us to the Rising Sun. It's clearly a pub that caters to locals, but we were made welcome by everybody there. It's one of those places that is quirky, traditional, and full of character, and we absolutely loved it.The location is hidden away down narrow lanes, but it really is worth searching out. The welcome is warm, and the food and drink are very good. I would return without hesitation....Vegetarian options: For a small pub, we were pleased to see veggie options, which looked more than tempting. It's a good balanced menu, without being pretentious.Parking: We found a space in front of the pub, but it's very tight there. If you can walk there from the village, life will be easier!

Too expensive . Will not go back . Quaint off track old pub with valley and wooded views . Car park accessible with a 4x4 if the road outside is full.

This is a lovely old country pub full of character and friendly people but I'm afraid I can't say the same about the food. We had a roast dinner there last Summer which was probably the worst roast we have had and said we wouldn't eat there again. But we were invited by friends to join them for dinner and we didn't want to say no. But I wish we had as it was very poor yet again. We both had the steak and ale pie. The meat was dry, no gravy in the pie, doubt if had any ale in it . . . and potatoes??? A jug of 'gravy' was served with it which just tasted like cheap gravy granules added to water and a few token frozen chips . . . rubbish!!!

We live in Gunnislake and took visiting family here. The food has always been good. The service is friendly. This pub is the heart of the village where locals meet regularly and visitors are always welcome. This is how an English pub should be

I don't think the photos online do this little pub justice. The views from the garden across the Tamar valley are fabulous and inside is the quintessential olde world pub. We sat outside as it was a lovely summer's day but I imagine it's a cosy place to sit by the fire in the winter. Didn't eat so can't comment on food but good selection of beers, had a nice pint of Legend and another of Sea Fury. If you happen to arrive by train beware the ENORMOUS, almost-vertical Stony Lane to get back to the station. You'll certainly feel it in your calves!

Had a lovely drink, dinner and a chat, gluten free burger was no problem for my coeliac wife. Felt most welcome and dogs are similarly treated.
