We have just enjoyed a beautiful ?taster menu? lunch at the Whitebrook. A truly memorable taste of autumn with the freshest of local ingredients from the garden, the most succulent of mackerel and cod with fresh light deserts crating a perfect balanced meal. The taster wine selection was exceptional with a unique blend of wines from the northern and Southern Hemispheres that complimented the menu perfectly. A perfect venue for a weekend treat in the autumnal Wye Valley. We hope to be back when visiting the Monmouth borders.Food & drinks: See the review of the restuarant.

I didn't stay but stopped here when I was lost. The staff were friendly and so kind and helpful. The facilities looked lovely and I will definitely remember this place for future trips. So quiet and comfortable.

Phenomenal tasting menu with very interesting flavour combinations. We were celebrating an anniversary and were mindful of the price when booking Dinner, Bed & Breakfast but decided to go for it given the restaurant's reputation. The service is very understated and our welcome when we checked in and the service from the sommelier reflected that, so to that extent our visit didn't feel that special in terms of the overrrall experience. I appreciate this is not a hotel so was not expecting hotel facilities but our room (room 6) was very dark and gloomy and small, and the bathroom was in need of a refresh with poor attention to maintenance. The lounge area for pre-drinks was not the cosiest and lacked the sort of ambience I was hoping for. We didn't opt for the wine flight and asked for the sommelier's advice on a red wine. As the menu lent very much towards white wine choices he looked somewhat disgruntled and his advice amounted to take a look at the wine list and buy what you know and will enjoy - he then walked away! That was a surprise! We were a bit discombobulated by his reaction so switched to a bottle of white without any further advice from him. We did have a chat with him a little later on when he warmed up a bit! We thought we would not spend quite as much if we didn't take the wine flight but we were wrong as the mark up on wine is pretty hefty (not unusual of course). So, in summary, all in all the most expensive evening meal we've ever had and the food was amazing (it does naturally take a while to get through the 8 courses and we only had one gap between courses which seemed a little too long); however as an overrall arrival to departure experience it lacked a certain extra specialness which I was hoping for given the price point.

Stayed for two nights for a celebration. All I can say is that it was faultess. Wonderful service from start to finish. Its remote location is part of the magic, in a beautiful wooded valley running up from the Wye. The rather plain white exterior belies what lies within. An intimate, contemporary, informal restaurant with some great artwork. The food is simply stunning, the default is a tasting menu, but as we were staying two nights we had a la carte on the second night. The very clever use of garden and foraged herbs ran through the whole menu, which delivered a very different and very pleasant experience. Every dish hit the mark without exception. The wine list was exceptional as the was the sommelier, with a very friendly and practical approach. We went with a Welsh white on teh first night and an English red on the second. Both were excllent. Our room was very comfortable and luxurious. Given the small number of rooms and the location on a very quiet lane. The quietness is remarkable, so delivered a very good nights sleep. Onto breakfast, also delivered in a tasting menu style, which was unsusual, with dishes on a par with dinner. All local ingredients cooked to perfection and portion sizes appropiate to the number of dishes.

Long over due review of a local favourite. This is obvs no ordinary local though, instead carefully and thoughtfully prepared garden fresh (ie foraged) food, with brilliant tasting parings and twists (that work) and incredibly, in spite of the many courses, never leaving you feeling over whelmed - ie flavours / cooking approach (v little oil / butter) means its a wonderfully light tasting menu. I am only sorry i havent left a review before - but the staff are consistently welcoming, the wine selection fab - and we are always blown away by the flavours. Thank you all! ps - sure its not "cheap" but for the courses and quality its v v good value!

Couldn't praise this restaurant enough! The staff there went above and beyond even to the point where one of the gentleman must of overheard me asking my wife about one of the ingredients and took his time to explain in detail what it is ,was honestly the best dining experience we have ever had ! considering it's Michelin star it's surprisingly un pretentious with hearty food .Food & drinks: Good wine and cocktail selection

Fabulous and distinctive restaurant (with rooms) in a hidden nook in the Wye Valley. The stupendous cuisine is the real reason to visit

Absolutely delicious meal for our anniversary. It was a huge treat for us given the cost but we thoroughly enjoyed the 7 course meal. The tastes and flavours, and all from locally sources ingredients, we're phenomenal. We have a 7.30 table at were the only guests for a good half an hour which was a little uncomfortable (lacking atmosphere) so I'd recommend a slightly later table but I would definitely recommend. It a stunning venue with a wonderful team and the food... Wow.

If like me you've eaten everything and want to try something new then this is the place for you. The remote location confused my satnav but with a bit of perseverance I arrived in plenty of time. I perused the menu and relaxed with a glass of wine on the terrace, an area which is literally like sitting in the middle of a forest. After enjoying the snacks it was back into the restaurant for the food part of the adventure, with the hogget main course and the rhubarb dessert being particularly memorable. Each element of the lunch menu contained items grown in the grounds or foraged from the surroundings. A truly inspiring experience and at lunchtime it's excellent value for money.

This is a "Fine dining experience" so big plates and tiny portions. I ordered Suckling pig and when it arrived there were three tiny (OXO cube size) bits of pork (?). It took almost three hours to complete the "Experience", Lots of time between courses.......O.K. for a glass of wine unless you're driving. Having said all that, with a balanced view - The food was lovely, staff attentive and great quality. I didn't leave feeling hungry, which was a worry during the long meal. I've been to a few Michelin star restaurants : This one is different. I had certain expectations which were dashed but maybe it 's because I'm a Phillistine; I don't know. Just be aware that the portions are really tiny but nice.

This restaurant is outstanding. All courses in the tasting menu were original without the gimmicks that characterise some experimental restaurants. Each course flowed from the previous serving and the balance between vegetable, seafood, fish and meat dishes was measured. The use of locally foraged plants added a special touch. We were privileged to have Beate serve us. She combined her expert nowledge of food, and particularly wines, with cheerful and charming demeanour. We have eaten in several two Michelin star restaurants. The Whitebrook would sit comfortably with them.
